Hello, my name is Helena Oseguera, and I am the founder of Plantéa Skin.
When Plantéa was first created back in 2020, it was only a stove, a pan, and a girl with an idea.
Coming from a family who is heavily involved in agriculture between Mexico and Texas, my upbringing was always surrounded by nature. Ever since I could remember, my mom taught me the wonders of plants and their ability to heal. Skincare has always been a heavy topic between my mom and I.
Every day, the process of washing our faces and sharing that time together became a ritual.
As a teen, I searched in vain for a quick fix for breakouts, trying every product I found in the department store. When I visited family in Sweden and Mexico, I’d try every brand I saw at the apothecaries, hoping I’d fall upon something that worked. I never did.
As a professional ballerina in training for many years, I dreamed of finding of a cleanser or cream that could soothe my skin after intense hours in the studio and countless performances spent in heavy makeup under brutal stage lights. I never did.
It wasn’t until my mom was diagnosed with rosacea that I realized the answer to my skincare trouble wasn’t about a product or a brand, it was about an ingredient.
And that ingredient that could soothe, nourish and fortify my skin had been near me all along — in fact, it was growing on my ranch!
One day, during a home visit from university, I was walking around my ranch and I came to the conclusion that I was going to help my mom out and create a skincare line that would not only help calm her rosacea, but also nourish and balance out the skin. That is when my father pointed out the cacti surrounding us.
My father and I have always known that the cactus is a very powerful and healing plant, with many minerals and benefits. We decided to take a closer look and see what the cactus plant could do to the skin. And that’s how we came to discover the power and the potential of this prickly plant.
Not only did I want to include what was part of my family business into the company, but I also wanted to incorporate my family background; Mexican, American, Swedish. Within this company, I would incorporate what I considered to be the most beneficial skincare feature of that country. Not only bringing three very different cultures into one bottle but bringing a very diverse team that I knew and confided in to create a great product.
